The HACS Mark IV Director was fitted to the Town-class
and many subsequent British warships including other cruisers and the King
George V-class battleships. These directors were used to aim larger caliber
AA funs such as the 4.7" and 4" dual purpose mounts. Most battleships,
carriers, and cruisers had a set of four with the exception of the Aurora
and Dido-class light cruisers which had two. |

HACS MK IV Director with
Type 285 Radar |

The packaging is a plastic clamshell container,
with the 3D printed runner containing the directors. As you can see from
the first photo, the runner somewhat obstructs the label itself and attached
with some industrial strength double-sided adhesive. Freeing the directors
was an extremely careful process, given the delicacy of the radar antennae.
Detail on these directors is insane. The aforementioned
antannae are almost or as fine as photo etched options. The only issue
I have is that they're a bit warped, though a quick bath in hot water may
solve that issue. Freeing the directors from the runner also doesn't appear
overly difficult, though I'd take extreme care not to damage the eyepiece
tubes.

CONCLUSIONS |
|
These 3D printed rangefinders are incredibly nice.
I'm definitely going to utilize them on my Prince of Wales when I get around
to building her.
These retail for roughly $10.50, depending on the
exchange rate, and are available directly from Swordfish Naval Models.
I want to thank both ModelWarships and Swordfish for the opportunity to
review this item. |
